September is the official start to spring:
The new season for the kitchen garden is upon us so things can get hectic planting & sowing wise this month.

In cold frames: sow:
Vegetables:
Asparagus
Cabbage
Capsicum
Aubergine
Pumpkin

Summer squash
Sweet potato
Water melon

Parsley
Sweet basil
Pyrethrum
French Tarragon

In frost free areas: sow or plant out: Banana, passionfruit & tropical guava
In cold areas: sow or plant out: Olive trees & day lily

Plant a green manure crop or cover crop of: Clover, barley, chickpea or millet
In suitable soils grow alfalfa, amaranth, buckwheat

Good time to sow grass seed or lay turf

GENERAL
Divide: Chives, lemon balm, globe artichokes
Prune: Lightly mature fig trees, suckers on Globe artichokes

As mentioned do as little as possible to your garden beds, except leave them to rest.

Tidy up fencing, greenhouse.

Clean tools, pots and floors.

FEEDING
On damp soil: apply fertiliser tea to:
Young rhubarb, asparagus seedlings and young crowns, celery, leeks, lettuce

Apply seaweed tea to: Tropical guava, pistachio & established roses
Apply ? strength to: Pineapple, established natives & gerber

After Watering fertilise: Kiwi fruit, almond, apple, apricot, peach, pear, mature pawpaw, tropical guava, olive, pecan, plum & rhubarb

Lightly fertilise:

Herbs:
Bay
Lemon grass
Rosemary
sage
Thyme
Flowers:
Frangipani
Pelargonium
Palms

Also water, aerate & fertilise new lawn
