I threw some sunflower seeds out for the birds last summer and I have a beautiful stand of over 50 stems in various states of flowering now and it is almost June.

I enjoy your website and tips. Thanks.

HI Gaylene, Thank you for the kind words, there is something mystical about sunflowers and you are SO lucky the birds left you something to look at:)

We put some sunflower seeds in (for the first time) along two boundaries but unfortunately we don,t get to see the smiley faces on the east boundary! the other ones fine cos they look across the garden. Maybe next year, now that we know they like facing east, we will sow accordingly. Ours seem to face east all day.

Hi Terry, Thank you for the comment. I think it could be the weather, my sunflowers don’t seem to be following the sun, or rather they didn’t today and they face East to meet the sun as it rises. but, I will make a conserted effort tomorrow to watch them and report back:) They are beautiful flowers though, I have them popping up all over the Kitchen garden and I didn’t sow any this year:)
